How do you define gentleman? For me, gentleman is a honorable man that carries a good social position. He is someone whom could be a role model for style and elegance for all the men out there.

Last June 17, I attended a presscon event for the announcement of finalists on The 2013 Elan Awards by McJim: The Search for the Modern Fiipino Gentleman, happened at the Sequoia Hotel, Quezon city.

The event was attended by the members of the press, bloggers, friends from McJim, among others.

Celebrity panel of judges Sam YG and Victor Basa, and project head of  McJim, Chris Cahilig also graced the event. Tim Yap who’s one of the judges of the award was not present on the event.

The award is being given by popular leather brand McJIM to the best role models for style and elegance among today’s Filipino gentlemen. The finalists were chosen from a lengthy list of entertainment, fashion, sports, music, and public service personalities nominated by Facebook users at the McJIM Classic Leather Official Facebook Fan Page.

Out of  80 male individuals- whether celebrities or non celebrities,  nominated by  Facebook users,  goes down with the set of 12 nominees. The 12 Elan Awards finalists chosen for the award met the  requirements: 1) Must have Filipino lineage; 2) Must be 23 to 40 years of age on the start of the search on May 1, 2013.

The 12 Elan Awards finalists were chosen by the celebrity panel of judges ( Sam, Victor and Tim). They are Senator-elect Sonny Angara; actor and producer Piolo Pascual; acclaimed actor Coco Martin; international singer Christian Bautista; actor and director Dingdong Dantes; celebrity food blogger Erwan Heussaff; actor Xian Lim;  singer and businessman Richard Poon; actor and singer Jericho Rosales; professional basketball athlete, businessman, and TV host Chris Tiu; AZKALS member Phil Younghusband and actor and fitness enthusiast Derek Ramsay.

In an official statement, McJIM Classic Leather said: “We’re very happy that these 12 deserving finalists have been chosen by our esteemed panel of judges. We look forward to the public’s decision in the final vote that will determine the Grand Winner of the 2013 Elan Awards.

“We established the Elan Awards to define and showcase the Modern Filipino Gentleman as someone who is proudly and truly Pinoy. As Filipinos, we should stop imitating and aspiring for foreign cultures. We have our own and we are as good as anyone else in the world. We should be proud of who we are and what we do as Filipinos.

“Each of these 12 Elan Awards finalists is a role model for us to be successful, stylish and elegant in our manner of dress, grooming, accomplishments, etiquette, and overall lifestyle—and they are all distinctly and proudly Filipino. The Elan Awards are here to inspire more Filipinos to blend a sense of style, gentlemanly manners and values, and the drive to succeed.”

If you have a Facebook account, you can definitely vote for your favorite celebrity nominated  on this award. You can choose on the top 12 finalists to be this year’s Modern Fiipino Gentleman by voting through the McJIM Classic Leather Official Facebook Page. All Facebook users in the Philippines and overseas are eligible to participate in the poll.

The criteria for the 12 finalists are the following:

a.Elegance of Style

b. Manners and Etiquette

c. Accomplishment.

The voting for “The 2013 Elan Awards: Search for the Modern Filipino Gentleman” is already started and open until August 2, 2013. You may now go to the McJim Classic Leather Official Facebook Fan Page and then vote fr your chosen finalist based on the three criteria. The finalist with the most number of votes will be the proclaimed Grand Winner of the 2013 Elan Awards.

The 2013 Elan Awards’ Grand Winner will receive a prestigious designer trophy; P100,000 in cash for himself; another P100,000 to be given to a charity of his choice; and one-year supply of McJIM products.  On the other hand, the nine finalists will receive plaques of appreciation and a six-month supply of McJIM products.
