Ginebra is the most popular team on the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and has the best fans in the world. For 40 years, chants of “Gi-neb-ra!” have rocked stadiums where the team played. Aside from having the highest number of fans, Ginebra is also well-known of the team’s Never-Say-Die mantra. It all began in 1985 when PBA legend Robert Jaworski Sr. hit by a wayward elbow in the second quarter and returned in the third quarter of the game despite the seven stitches on his lip.

On its 40th year anniversary, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel franchise recently unveiled its 2019 “Never Say Die” Jersey Collection at the Novotel Hotel in Cubao, Quezon City.

The launching event was joined by father of the “Never-Say-Die” spirit, Robert Jaworski Sr together with Ginebra players the Fast and the Furious” duo of Jayjay Helterbrand (13) and Mark Caguioa (47), fast-rising basketball superstar Scottie Thompson (6), and PBA import Justin Brownlee (32).

Hosted by PBA courtside reporeter Riza Diaz and sports analyst “The Dean” Quinito Henzon, the event was started with a very graceful performance from Ginebra San Miguel Super Angels followed by a welcoming remarks from Marketing Manager Ronald Molina. Ginebra National Sales Manager Allan Mercado also graced the event and shared some important details about the new jersey collection.

What makes the 2019 Jersey Collection special? “This is the first time in the 40-year history of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel that ‘Never-Say-Die’ is featured in the team jersey. Barangay Ginebra San Miguel has become synonymous to the never-say-die spirit that has been the mantra not only of the Gin Kings but also of every kabarangay. Our tribute to never-say-die, which began with coach Robert ‘Sonny’ Jaworski, Sr., is also a tribute to the team’s legions of fans who have not only embraced and loved the team but also embodied the never-say-die attitude,” says Ginebra San Miguel Brand Manager Paolo Tupaz.
