The Palawan Liberation Task Force composed of the Province of Palawan, the City of Puerto Princesa, Palawan Chamber of Commerce, Palawan Tourism Council, US AID and Rajah Travel Corporation is mounting a historic event this coming April 21-23, 2015 at Puerto Princesa City entitled “A Salute to Valor: Palawan – 70 Years of Freedom”.

A Salute to Valor Palawan 70 years of Freedom

The year 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the island of Palawan during World War II. Many brave Filipinos and Americans fought side-by-side and gave their lives in the hope of peace. The U.S. liberation forces and Filipino soldiers fought together to finally end the Japanese occupation in Palawan. Over 100 American soldiers were massacred at Plaza Cuartel and around 1000 Filipino guerillas and US Army Forces in the Far East took part in the events leading to this liberation.

The event aims to focus on a significant piece of history that took place during World War II, hoping to give proper recognition to the occasion that led to the liberation of Palawan. It also aspires to honor the people who took part in this event that took place 70 years ago.

It is in this spirit that we honor not only those who sacrificed their lives but all those who contributed to this victorious historical event.
