A Visit To Unilab’s Research Laboratory and Manufacturing Plant

Is there a time you are wondering where medicines and vitamins you are taking in came from? I’m sure you are also curious how these tablets or capsules are being manufactured. Well, let me share you a story my plant tour experience in one of the best research laboratory and manufacturing plants in the country- the Amherst Laboratories, Inc. Amherst Laboratories, Inc. is United Laboratories’ (Unilab) state-of-the-art and world class research laboratory and manufacturing plant. It sits on a sprawling 2.4 hectares of land in the Unilab Pharma Campus in Mamplasan, Biñan, Laguna.

The facility features a two-story administration building that houses  training room, multipurpose room, machine room, cafeteria, among others.

At the back of administration building, you will see a 4,000-sq. m. warehouse for the storing and implementing the best packaging and distribution services

Amherst strictly complies with both local and international standards of good manufacturing practices (GMP), making sure it is producing the best and quality products.

Most of Unilab’s ethical or prescription medicines are manufactured here. It produces solid and liquid dosage forms of medicines. Some Unilab’s over counter products are manufactured in their site in Mandaluyong City.

The employees are strictly following the guidelines especially the cleanliness of the working area. Each of them are wearing a clean  and color- coded uniform base on the department they are working with.

The facility is also conducting a plant tour for medical students, doctors, senior citizens, among others.

I’m totally impressed on Unilab facility because I don’t  see any dirt on the floor, wall, ceiling. Cleanliness and quality are very important to them. They make sure the whole area is neat. Actually before we entered the production area,  they provided us a lab gown for our body and plastic cover for our shoes. The laboratory is very sensitive that’s why they need to make sure every visitors should follow the sanitation measures and other building guidelines.  We washed our hands to make sure we won’t contaminate the place.

The guide explained to us how Unilab‘s products are  manufactured before it goes to the consumers. From the process of making the medicines to packaging, everything is well explained. I also noticed their high-end and powerful machines, these are superb! It can produce more than hundred thousand of medicines a day.

Overall, I totally enjoyed the Unilab plant tour. I really appreciated  the hospitality and heartwarming reception prepared by the Unilab and Amherts.  The tour and its facilitators are really great. I gained knowledge some technical process on how medicines are manufactured.  I am now confident that I’m using the right products. From topical and oral medications to skin care products, I am sure that what I use is clean, quality and effective. Addition to that, Unilab products are very affordable and purely Filipino made.
