Other than basketball, I think billiards is one of the games that Filipnos commonly play during free time. It’s easy to play and very entertaining. This is also the best game where family and friends can play together.
Last September 23, I witnessed the opening of 2012 Villards Cup billiards tournament held at the newly opened Starmall in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. It was led by Villar Foundation’s Chairman and Managing Director—Senator Manny Villar and Former Las Pinas Representative Cynthia Villar.
The event was joined by the Philippine Billiards legends —Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante, Ronnie ‘The Volcano’ Alcano and Dennis ‘Robocop’ Orcollo together with the sixteen amateur players from all over the province of Bulacan who qualified for the competition.
It’s great to see my idols in billiards on the Villards Cup. I’m really proud to our billiard players who always bring excellence and honor to our country.
During the event, they delighted the audiences on their exhibition games. Everyone was really amazed on their tricks and techniques on billiards. Sometimes, we’re thinking how is that happen…????
The Villar Foundation started the Villards Cup in 2009. It provides budding billiards players a venue to compete against amateur players and play alongside veterans and billiards champs.
“Villards Cup is one of the sports-oriented programs of the Villar Foundation to encourage the youth to engage in sports, and keep them away from the streets and from illegal drugs.” said Mrs. Villar, who will attend the awarding and closing ceremony on Monday.
Sen. Villar added that they hope Villards Cup will be instrumental in discovering and developing the potential of amateur billiards players.
It’s really great to hear that Villar Foundation will continue support and implement various sports programs throughout the country like Sports sa Barangay, football clinics and among others.
